If you’re missing a tooth or several teeth, you have quite a problem on your hands. For one, you probably can’t chew food as effectively as you did before. The space it creates may make the adjacent tooth become uneven when it moves. And of course, missing teeth can affect your smile. In fact, you probably don’t smile a lot these days. At ICP Dental Group in Boynton Beach, we offer regular bridges and dentures for missing teeth, but more and more of our patients are opting for implant restorations instead.
What Are Implant Restorations?
Regular dentures and bridges are usually the most common options to replace missing teeth. These devices are anchored to nearby teeth, which means that these teeth will have to be prepared to serve as support for the restoration devices. That may mean having a crown installed on the adjacent teeth if they don’t have enough material. Usually, devices such as dentures will also need to be taken out regularly so that your gums may feel some relief.
But with implant restorations, we replace your missing teeth with a newer method. This method involves inserting a titanium screw through the gums and directly into the jawbone. We use titanium because the human body doesn’t have a problem with this metal at all. This implant serves as the replacement root of your tooth.
Then we’ll need to wait for 3 to 6 months so that the implant fuses with your jawbone. After that period, we can then install a crown to serve as a replacement for your teeth. We make sure that the crown is meticulously shaped and colored perfectly, so that anyone who sees it thinks that it’s your natural teeth.
If you’re missing several teeth in a row, we can place dentures or a bridge that is supported by an implant. We’ll be happy to discuss all your options with you in our clinic, so that we can decide the most suitable solution for your restoration needs.
Why Opt for Implant Restorations?
Patients who visit our clinic cite several reasons why they feel implants are the best solution for them. It’s not just the fact that you can now smile with confidence because your missing teeth have been replaced. Implants are the better option because:
- They’re permanent. That means there’s no need for you to remove your replacement teeth at all.
- They feel like natural teeth. Many of our patients have commented on this fact. You don’t have to experience that bulky feeling in your mouth when you first wear dentures. You don’t have to go through a period of adjustment, and you won’t even suffer any speech impediments until you learn to adapt to your replacement teeth. Basically, they really do feel like your natural teeth have been restored.
- They are easy to maintain. You can treat them just like your regular teeth. So you can use a toothbrush and a floss to care for them on a daily basis.
- Implants are very durable. Many of our patients who have dental implants have been using them for years and they’ll have them for the rest of their lives. This is in stark contrast with other devices like dentures, which need to be replaced every couple of years or so. You also won’t have any problem eating foods that you were able to eat with your natural teeth.
