Smile Makeover Case Study 1

Smile makeover Boynton Beach FL

This patient presented with severe erosion and grinding of teeth. The patient had severe acid reflux and was a heavy grinder from stress and sports. The combination of mechanical destruction from grinding and acid destruction from stomach acid severely destroyed over 70% of his tooth structure in most areas.

The patient asked for a “Hollywood Smile”.

We had to analyze his smile prior to any treatment and decide on our future position and goals. In the end some teeth had to be removed because the destruction was beyond repair. Also gum tissue re-contouring was completed for esthetics to lengthen his shortened teeth by destruction. 3 dental implants were placed. And a combination of gold crowns, porcelain metal ceramic crowns, and porcelain onlay/veneers completed his treatment resulting in a smile that combines esthetics worthy of “Hollywood” and also a smile that protects against erosion and destruction from grinding.

This plan required prosthodontic planning prior to initiation to complete a customized ideal smile makeover.

Smile Makeover Case Study 2

This patient presented wearing an upper and lower removable partial denture. A removable partial denture or flipper really just fills in the spaces or gaps of missing teeth. To actually eat and chew with this removable appliance is extremely limited. It is documented that once an implant is installed that the ability to chew and eat increases up to 100-300 times over having a removable appliance in your mouth.

This patient did not want to have anything removable in her mouth. The plan was to remove her remaining teeth on the bottom due to severe destruction and place dental implants. The teeth were removed the same day as the implant were placed, and finally that same day the patient walked out with a whole new set of permanent (non-removable) teeth on the bottom in a procedure referred to as “Teeth in a day”.

The gap on the top was completed with dental implants and a combination of crowns for the surrounding teeth to complete the full mouth reconstruction.

In the end the patient received a complete set of teeth with use of dental implants and crowns and got rid of the removable denture. The patient did not have to worry about taking anything out of their mouth anymore.

Smile Makeover Case Study 3

The patient presented with almost all his teeth missing. He had two teeth remaining and was wearing dentures. He had been wearing dentures for over 30 years. The idea behind a denture is essentially a piece of plastic that sits on your gums and somehow now you are supposed to use these floating plastic teeth to chew, smile, and laugh with confidence. More often than not patient relies on using sticky powders and adhesives to put the teeth in. This turns into a messy situation and still a limited functional situation.

The treatment decided was to place dental implants for fixed permanent teeth on those dental implants. First, bone grafting was done to build the thickness of the bone and dental implants were placed for teeth in a day procedure. 6 implants were placed on the top and 6 implants were placed on the bottom.

The patient went from wearing dentures that flopped around to having permanent teeth. This all occurred in one day.

Smile Makeover Case Study 4

The patient presented with missing teeth and teeth that have deteriorated from decay, erosion, and grinding. He was ready to regain his dental health and was concerned about his confidence personally and in business. The goal was to plan a treatment with dental health, function, and esthetics as the priority.

It was determined to remove the existing teeth and use dental implants to reconstruct the mouth. Because the patient was active dealing with people, it was decided to create a plan that avoided a transitional phase with a removable temporary. For the lower teeth in day protocol was used with removal of teeth , addition of implants, and installation of fixed teeth on those implants. For the upper a few teeth were saved to create a temporary while the implants healed in the bone. When the implants were ready, this temporary was converted into an implant supported temporary. 7 implants were placed on the upper and 5 implants were placed on the lower.

The final result was a complete transformation and smile for the patient using dental implants. Fixed porcelain implant restoration was the final restoration on the upper and fixed acrylic implant restoration was the final restoration on the lower. Dental health was obtained and a brand new smile as well.

Smile Makeover Case Study 5

Patient presents with missing teeth and old crowns that are falling apart due to decay. In this case patient was prescribed new medications that resulted in dry mouth or xerostomia. Saliva in the mouth acts as a buffer. Without this important medium coating the teeth, decay can occur very rapidly. This is the exact scenario with this patient. The dry mouth side effect from the medications caused a rapid onset of decay which resulted in complete destruction of the remaining teeth.

All teeth had to be removed, and dental implants were decided as the route of treatment. Dental implants cannot get cavities, so there is no concern with dry mouth The patient was very concerned about her appearance during the entire process from healing to final teeth, so it was decided to create a plan that avoided a transitional phase with a removable temporary. For the upper and lower a few teeth were saved to create a temporary while the implants healed in the bone. When the implants were ready, this temporary was converted into an implant supported temporary. 8 implants were placed on the upper and 8 implants were placed on the lower.

The final result was a complete transformation and smile for the patient using dental implants. Fixed porcelain implant restoration was the final restoration on both the upper and lower teeth. Dental health was obtained and a brand new smile as well. Although the patient still had dry mouth, dental implants cannot get cavities.

Smile Makeover Case Study 6

Cosmetic Bonding

The patient presented with missing teeth and existing crowns that were short and defective. The existing crowns were short and not esthetic. The patient wanted the gaps filled and to see his teeth in his smile. He was wearing a removable partial denture for his gaps but wanted to rid himself of all removable dentures.

His previous crowns were too short. It takes proper smile analysis to design crowns for the patient. The previous dentist did not properly analyze the esthetics for the patient. Prior to starting any work, diagnostic wax ups were completed to see the future position of the teeth. This is done to verify the direction of esthetics and confirm with the patient.

Dental implants were placed for the missing areas and the crowns were redone to produce a smile that was esthetic and also showed the patients teeth in his smile.

Again as a full mouth reconstruction, all these crowns were done all at once and not in segments.

Smile Makeover Case Study 7

Cosmetic Bonding

The patient presents with missing teeth and severe decay on remaining teeth. The remaining teeth had severe periodontitis or severe bone loss. This resulted in the support around the teeth being reduced dramatically. The remaining teeth were getting “loose” or mobile because of the bacteria destroying the support around the existing teeth. Because of the condition in the mouth, the teeth were deemed non-restorable with a poor prognosis.

The patient wanted a permanent solution and no dentures. It was decided to regain dental health and dental esthetics with the use of dental implants.
